Strong Start but Facing Fatigue in the Latter Half Pauline Makoma initiated the 2026 REVEL Big Cottonwood half marathon with a consistent pace, successfully maintaining a pace under 10 minutes per mile for the initial miles. Notably, her fastest split occurred between the 4th and 5th mile, clocking in at 9:11 minutes per mile. By her 5th mile, she was placed 116th within her age division, Female 25-29, showing solid performance among peers. As the race progressed, Pauline encountered a deceleration, with her pace increasing to 12:50 and eventually 16:42 minutes per mile in the final miles. Despite ending at a slower pace, she achieved 209th in her age division overall, completing the 13.1-mile course in 2:30:31. For future races, focusing on sustaining initial pace in later segments could contribute to a more uniform performance throughout and potentially elevate her final standing.
