Strong Finish Secures Division Win Josh Johnston completed the 2026 Capital City Marathon in 3:11:10, with an impressive overall pace of 7:17 min/mile. His splits reveal a consistent performance, with notable improvement in the latter sections of the race. Johnston began with a steady pace of 7:25 min/mile, but strategically increased his speed, achieving the fastest split in the final mile at 6:12 min/mile. This strong finish contributed to winning first place in the M25-29 division, and an overall 11th place out of 485 participants. A distinguishing factor in Johnston's race was his ability to maintain and improve placement throughout. Starting in 28th place, he improved his position steadily and finished strong in the top 2% overall. While the initial two miles showed a slight slowdown, maintaining a strategic and faster pace from mile 18 onwards proved effective. Going forward, starting with the pace from later miles could potentially yield even faster results.
