Consistent Pace Leads to Division Top Finish Jason Hect maintained a disciplined pace throughout the 2026 Eugene Marathon, completing the 26.2-mile course with an elapsed time of 3:00:53 and an overall pace of 6:54 minutes per mile. His performance was particularly notable in the M55-59 division, where he secured a 4th place finish. Consistency was a hallmark of Jasons race; he ran most splits between 6:44 and 7:15 minutes per mile, demonstrating strong endurance and pacing strategy. Interesting fluctuations occurred at miles 6 and 12 where Jason picked up the pace to 6:34 and 6:58 minutes per mile, respectively. A slight slowdown was noted in the final stretch from miles 24-26 where split times increased to over 7 minutes per mile. Finishing 551st overall and 473rd among male runners in a field of 5,499 participants highlights the quality of his performance. As a coach, perhaps next time, consideration could be given to sustaining the pace through the latter stages of the race.
