Outright Victory Anchors Debut of Texas' Newest Ultra Distance Gabby De La Rosa won the 2026 Habanero Hundred's Habanero 135 outright first overall among all 39 entrants, not just first female covering 132.6 miles in 30:12:15. The 135 was brand new for 2026, created specifically because the race's veteran finishers decided 100 miles wasn't enough; entry was reserved for experienced ultra runners, and no pacer was permitted before the 50-mile mark. De La Rosa opened patiently, running her first several 6.2-mile loops in the 9:5010:15 min/mile range while sitting just outside the top five overall. She climbed into third by mile 18 and took the outright race lead at mile 34 (6:03:34 elapsed), a position she held through roughly mile 84. From there the overall lead changed hands with one competitor repeatedly between miles 85 and 124, before De La Rosa reclaimed first place for good around mile 126 and carried it to the finish. Her per-loop pace lengthened steadily as the race wore on, moving from sub-10:00 splits early to a 1422 minute range through the back half an expected progression given the deep sand, heat and 30-hour clock the course is built around. The stretch between miles 85 and 124, where the lead traded hands multiple times, stands out as the race's most contested section; tightening pace consistency through that middle-late window could help build a larger cushion earlier in similarly long efforts. Finishing as the outright winner of a new, uncapped distance on a course that has produced only 198 total 100-mile finishes since 2015 is a standout result on a genuinely challenging course.
