Early Speed Powers a Division Title Through Texas Heat The Habanero Hundred starts its 100-mile race at high noon on a 10km loop repeated 16 times, a deliberate choice so runners absorb the worst of the Texas heat while still fresh. Since 2015, the race has produced only 198 finishes at the 100-mile distance, a scarcity that frames Sergio Araujo's result: a 24:37:02 finish covering 97.79 miles, good for 5th overall among 79 entrants, 4th male, and the M20-29 age-group title. Araujo's splits reveal an aggressive opening, holding a tight 9:409:41 min/mile pace through the first five miles while sitting 7th overall. That early rhythm paid off in a standout moment at mile 34, where his pace briefly vaulted him into 1st place overall and 1st male. He resurfaced near the front again at mile 80, splitting into 2nd overall before conditions and accumulated mileage pushed his pace into the 14:3015:20 min/mile range for the closing loops, finishing with an overall elapsed pace of 15:06 min/mile.
