Surged to the Race Lead Late Before a Tough Final Stretch The Habanero Hundred lives up to its reputation as one of Texas' most punishing trail races a high-noon start on a 10km loop course through deep sand, run in triple-digit heat, with only 198 100-mile finishers recorded in the event's first decade. Bronson Kersey, 39, of Houston, took on the 100-mile distance at the 2026 edition, a race that tests pacing and heat management as much as raw fitness. Kersey opened strong, clicking off the first four miles at an even 10:30/mile pace and sitting 9th overall, 7th among men, and 2nd in the M30-39 division. As the loops accumulated, his pace naturally settled into the 1214 min/mile range, and he held a steady position in the top 1012 overall through
