Early Speed Turns Into a Wire-to-Wire Men's Victory Trevor Vavreck completed the 100K distance at the 2026 Habanero Hundred in 14:10:46 over 61.19 miles, finishing 2nd overall out of 75 participants and 1st in both the Male and Male Division categories. The result came on a course built from repeating 10K loops through Texas heat and deep sand, conditions the race is specifically designed around with a high-noon start meant to expose runners to peak temperatures while still fresh. Splits show an aggressive opening, with the first five miles clicking off at a consistent 9:409:41 min/mile pace, good enough for 2nd overall at that point. From mile 6 onward, pace steadily eased as cumulative fatigue and heat took hold, with per-mile splits drifting into the 1115 minute range through the midrace loops. Notably, by mile 14 (2:39:25 elapsed) Trevor moved into the overall race lead and claimed the top male position, a spot he held for the remainder of the effort even as overall placement fluctuated between 1st and 3rd over the final 47 miles. Later splits lengthened further, with several loops in the 1824 minute range past mile 44, reflecting the compounding demands of distance and conditions, before closing with a final loop split of 15:07. The overall pacing arc a fast start near 9:40 pace giving way to a gradual, controlled decline points to strong positioning early and a resilient hold on the men's lead across the back half of the race. Given the late-race split lengthening, working on maintaining a narrower pace band in the middle miles could help smooth the transition into the final loops and preserve more overall placement in the closing stretch. Securing the outright men's title on this challenging, heat-heavy 100K course is a strong result to build on.
