Date: Aug. 22, 2026 Participant: Blake Sanner #245 Race: 2026 Habanero 100K Distance: 62.0 miles

Consistent Early Pacing Gives Way to a Grinding Final Stretch Blake Sanner completed the 100K distance at the 2026 Habanero Hundred in 18:13:40, covering 61.19 miles at an overall average pace of 17:52 per mile. He finished 19th overall out of 75 participants, 11th among men, and 6th in the M30-39 division. Fittingly for a race whose 10K loops begin with a high-noon Bellville town start before runners head into the 7IL Ranch, Sanner's opening miles were his most metronomic: laps 1 through 6 were run within a second of each other, all landing between 16:52 and 16:53 per mile, and briefly moved him as high as 34th overall by mile 16. The middle portion of the race showed a runner managing effort in waves rather than settling into a single gear. Several loops in the 14:0915:47 per-mile range (miles 8-12, 15-18, 21-24, 27-30, 39-42) were interspersed with slower recovery loops in the 19-25 minute range, a pattern that pushed him as high as 11th overall around mile 28 before conditions pulled him back into the low-20s. The steepest single dip came at miles 31-32, where back-to-back splits of 24:53 and 31:40 marked the slowest stretch of the day. The closing 10 miles told the clearest story of accumulated fatigue, with splits consistently sitting in the 18-23 minute range from mile 51 onward, only dropping back toward 15-16 minute pace in the final two miles. For future starts on this course where the deliberate high-noon gun is designed to front-load heat exposure building a slightly more even effort through the middle third could help preserve more pace for the final 10K.
