From Mid-Pack to Overall Champion Angela Martinez-Robinson claimed the overall win at the 2026 Habanero Hundred, crossing the line first among all 75 participants in the 100K distance with a time of 13:46:24 (13:30 min/mile pace) over 61.19 miles. The race is run on a single 10km loop repeated ten times for the 100K distance, with runners never more than three miles from aid a format that rewards the kind of sustained pacing Angela displayed across nearly 14 hours on course. Her splits tell a story of steady, patient progression. She opened with five remarkably consistent miles at an 11:48-11:49 pace, sitting 14th overall and 6th among women. Rather than fading, she climbed the field mile by mile reaching 7th by mile 7, 4th by mile 13, and taking the overall lead outright at mile 18. She traded the top spot back and forth through the middle miles (settling into 2nd-3rd from roughly mile 20 through 47) before retaking 1st place for good at mile 48 and holding it through the finish, a lead she never relinquished over the final 13 miles. The back half of the race showed the expected toll of distance and heat, with per-mile splits loosening from the sub-12:00 pace of the early miles into the 13:00-18:00 range, including a 20:27 split at mile 50 likely reflecting an aid station stop given the race's mandatory hydration and heat-management setup. Given the demanding conditions described by organizers (real-feel temperatures over 100F and deep sand footing), some late-race slowing is expected. Working on maintaining tighter, more even splits in the final third could help preserve energy for an even stronger closing kick in future 100K or longer efforts.
