Early Speed Holds Up for a Podium 100K Finish At the 2026 Habanero Hundred Texas' notoriously brutal trail race held on a 10km loop at the 7IL Ranch, where average real-feel temperatures top 100 degrees Anabel Vega Meyer completed the 100K distance in 14:28:42, finishing 3rd overall and 2nd in the women's field out of 75 total participants. The race is known for its unforgiving high-noon start, designed so runners face the heat while still fresh rather than late in the race, and Vega Meyer's pacing reflected the toll of those conditions over the day. Vega Meyer opened fast, clicking off her first five miles at a consistent 10:4210:43 min/mile pace while sitting 6th overall and 2nd in the women's field. By mile 7 she had moved into the overall women's lead, a position she held through roughly mile 17 nearly a quarter of the race as her overall place climbed as high as 2nd. From there, pace naturally extended as fatigue and heat accumulated: by mile 30 her per-mile splits had settled into the 1215 minute range, and by the final 10 miles she was navigating 1522 minute miles, including a 22:28 split at mile 50. Her overall elapsed pace slid from 10:42 min/mile early to a final 14:11 min/mile average, a typical and expected curve for a 100K in these conditions. Vega Meyer's ability to hold the women's lead for an extended middle stretch shows strong positional racing and pacing discipline early on. For future efforts on courses like this, working on maintaining a steadier decline in pace during the second half rather than the sharper slowdowns seen between miles 40 and 50 could help preserve overall placement even further.
