Date: Aug. 22, 2026 Participant: Henrik Klemola #200 Race: 2026 Habanero 100K Distance: 62.0 miles

Steady Surge Pushes Late-Race Climb Through the Field Henrik Klemola completed the 100K distance at the 2026 Habanero Hundred in 19:14:19, finishing 22nd overall out of 75 participants, 14th among men, and 3rd in the Masters division. This result came on a course run entirely on a single 10km loop under a start time and heat profile the race is specifically designed around a high-noon gun with real-feel temperatures reported above 100 degrees, a detail that makes early pacing discipline especially important. Klemola's early splits were his fastest of the day, holding a 15:38 min/mile pace through the first five miles while sitting inside the top 20 overall. Splits gradually lengthened into the high 17s and 18s per mile as the day progressed, with a notable slowdown around miles 2526 (29:54 and 38:56 splits) likely reflecting the accumulated heat and fatigue typical of this course. A strong mid-race response followed: miles 2730 saw a sharp pace drop to 11:22, 14:45, 11:53, and 11:47 min/mile, coinciding with a jump from 39th to as high as 12th overall the most dynamic stretch of the race. From there, pacing settled into a rhythm in the high-teens to low-20s per mile through the finish, with overall position holding firm in the low-to-mid 20s over the final 20 miles. Klemola's placement improved steadily across the second half, moving from 44th overall near mile 613 down to 22nd by the finish, a solid positional gain sustained over the closing miles. Given the late-race pace variability, particularly the stretch between miles 4347, continued work on maintaining a more even effort through the heat of the day could help smooth the back-half splits in future starts at this distance.
