Date: Aug. 22, 2026 Participant: Elizabeth Perez #199 Race: 2026 Habanero 100K Distance: 62.0 miles
Steady Early Pace Anchors a Masters Division Win Elizabeth Perez, 61, of Victoria, TX, completed the 100K distance at the 2026 Habanero Hundred in 15:55:40 across 61.19 miles, finishing 13th overall among 75 entrants, 6th among all women, and 1st in the Women's Masters division. The race is built on a single 10km loop repeated ten times for the 100K, a design that keeps every runner within three miles of aid station support throughout the event. Perez's early race was defined by remarkable consistency: from mile 1 through mile 48, she held a steady 12:1912:20 min/mile pace with almost no variation. That execution translated directly into position she led the female field outright at multiple points, including miles 13 and 19, then held 1st place overall female for a 25-mile stretch from mile 24 through mile 48, a sustained run at the front of the women's race deep into the event. The back half told a different story. A lengthy mile-49 split of 1:26:39 marked a clear turning point, after which pace settled into the 1729 min/mile range for the remaining 13 miles. Overall position slipped from 1st female at mile 48 to 5th, and eventually to 13th overall by the finish, though the Masters division title held firm throughout. For future efforts at this distance, building in a reserve for the second half perhaps through a slightly more conservative early pace could help preserve more of that strong front-half positioning all the way to the finish line.
