Date: Aug. 22, 2026 Participant: Lisa Flores #570 Race: 2026 Habanero 10K Distance: 6.2 miles

Steady Climber Rallies Through the Midrace Dip to Finish Top Five Lisa Flores crossed the 10K finish line at the 2026 Habanero Hundred in 1:38:09, good for 13th overall out of 49 finishers, 5th among all women, and 2nd in the Female Masters division. That result came on a course run in temperatures the race itself advertises as averaging over 100 degrees real-feel a fitting test for Texas' self-proclaimed hottest trail race. Her mile-by-mile splits tell the story of a race with two distinct gears. Flores opened fast, clocking a 13:48 first mile that had her sitting 8th overall and 1st in her Masters division. The middle miles proved tougher: her pace slid to 18:06 by mile three, dropping her to 14th overall and 2nd in Masters, with elapsed pace climbing to 16:12/mile by mile four. She then found a second wind, turning in a 14:54 split for mile five that pulled her back up to 13th overall and 2nd in Masters, a position she held through the final mile despite a 17:13 closing split. The pattern of a strong start, a clear midrace fade around miles three and four, and a solid recovery suggests room to work on maintaining rhythm through the heat of the middle miles, where the course's deep sand and full sun exposure typically take their toll. Given that the Habanero Hundred is designed so runners are never more than three miles from aid on its signature 10km loop, targeted pacing through that stretch could help smooth out the swings seen between miles two and four. Overall, a top-five finish in the women's field and a runner-up spot in the Masters division are strong results to build from heading into future races on this notoriously demanding course.
