Fast Start Fuels Podium-Range Masters Finish Elizabeth Mak completed the 10K at the 2026 Habanero Hundred in 1:39:47, finishing 16th overall among 49 participants, 8th among women, and 3rd in the F40-49 Masters division. The result came on a course organizers call "Texas' hottest trail race," where real-feel temperatures routinely climb above 100 degrees. Mak's mile splits tell the story of a strong front half: a 14:49 second mile was her fastest of the day, helping push her into 1st place in the Masters division by the four-mile mark. Her pace stayed efficient through the middle of the race, holding between 15:25 and 16:07 across miles four and five, before slipping to an 18:51 final mile her slowest split and enough to drop her from 1st to 3rd in her division by the finish. The late fade in the final mile suggests an opportunity to work on closing strength, particularly given the demanding nature of this event. The Habanero Hundred is deliberately structured to front-load heat exposure races here start at high noon on a 30-hour clock specifically so runners face the worst conditions while still fresh, rather than late in the effort. With an already strong opening pace and a brief stint atop the Masters standings, tightening pacing consistency over the final stretch could translate into an even stronger finishing position in future starts on this course.
