Date: Aug. 22, 2026 Participant: Erick Del Angel Orta #110 Race: 2026 Habanero 100 Mile Distance: 100.0 miles
Age-Group Winner Holds Steady Through 27-Hour Battle Racing under one of Texas' most brutal ultra formats a High Noon start on a 30-hour clock across a single 10km loop repeated 16 times Erick Del Angel Orta completed the 2026 Habanero Hundred in 27:30:59, covering 97.79 miles. Of the 79 registered 100-mile starters, he crossed 10th overall and 7th among men, while capturing the M30-39 division title a notable achievement given that only 198 runners have finished the 100-mile distance at this race between 2015 and 2025. Del Angel Orta's early pacing was remarkably consistent, holding a 12:39 min/mile pace through the first six miles and staying near that mark through the marathon point (mile 26, elapsed 6:02:01). He held the division lead from mile 25 onward, and by the 50-mile mark (12:08:13 elapsed) his overall pace had settled to 14:33 min/mile. A standout moment came late in the race: during miles 93 and 94, despite splits slowing to the 29-30 min/mile range, he actually claimed the overall race lead a testament to how much the field had also slowed in the heat and fatigue of the closing stretch. The final six miles told the story of a taxing finish, with splits stretching from the low-20s into the 40s min/mile range as the elapsed pace climbed from 15:44 to 16:52 min/mile. This late fade cost him the overall lead he briefly held, settling for 3rd and then 9th before the finish. For future 100-mile efforts, building a reserve for the final 10K perhaps through more conservative mid-race pacing between miles 60-80 could help him convert those late-race positions held into the closing miles. Overall, a strong, division-winning performance in brutal August conditions.
