Date: Aug. 22, 2026 Participant: Satan's Sweatshop #697 Race: 2026 Habanero 100 Mile Relay Distance: 100.0 miles
Relay Squad Seizes the Lead at Mile 10 and Never Lets Go Competing in the 100 Mile Relay at the 2026 Habanero Hundred, the team completed 97.79 miles in 15:39:23 (9:36/mile average), claiming the overall win among 25 entrants and topping both the men's field and the Men's Overall division from start to finish of their time atop the leaderboard. The team opened conservatively, holding a steady 9:579:58/mile pace through the first five miles while sitting fifth overall. A sharp surge followed splits of 8:59, 7:41, 7:34 and 7:40 over miles 710 vaulted the team from third to first place outright, a position they held for the remaining 88 miles. The fastest single split of the day came late, a 6:38 mile at mile 91, showing the team still had speed in reserve deep into the race. The slowest split, 14:03 at mile 28, marked the only real dip in rhythm, but the team's overall elapsed pace never wavered outside a tight 8:449:46/mile band across nearly 100 miles of racing a strong display of pacing discipline on a course run in Texas August heat, on a race notorious for its high-noon start specifically designed to expose runners to peak temperatures while still fresh. Given the mid-race dip around mile 28 and the recurring string of 1112 minute splits in the race's second half, tightening pacing consistency between aid stations could shave meaningful time off the overall result. Otherwise, the team's ability to take and hold the overall lead for nearly 90 miles, closing with sub-8:00 miles late in the effort, reflects excellent strength and execution on one of the state's most demanding courses.
