Consistent Start, Late-Race Surge Define a Full 100-Mile Relay Effort Racing on Trail Racing Over Texas' single 10km loop at the 7IL Ranch a cupless course requiring runners to carry a minimum of 500ml of personal hydration this relay team covered 97.79 miles in 23:00:47, a 14:07/mile overall pace, finishing 17th of 25 teams in the 100 Mile Relay division. The opening stretch was remarkably even, with the first six miles locked into a 13:3713:38/mile pace and the team sitting 19th overall. Splits gradually lengthened through the middle miles as the Texas heat took hold, bottoming out between miles 6467 with splits stretching to 1819 min/mile consistent with the race's reputation for real-feel temperatures above 100 degrees and deep sand underfoot. Through this stretch the team held steady in the high-teens to low-20s overall. The back third told a different story. From mile 80 onward, splits tightened dramatically into the 10:2312:50/mile range, and the team briefly rocketed into the top five overall 3rd at mile 85, 4th at mile 86, and 6th at mile 92 before easing to a 17th-place finish at the line. That closing kick, sustained over roughly 17 miles, was the strongest sustained pacing of the entire effort and suggests real reserves left in the tank. Carrying more of that late-race rhythm into the middle miles, where the pace drifted furthest off target, would likely translate directly into a stronger final placement next time. Overall, a well-managed distribution of effort across a genuinely demanding course.
