Starting strong, Charles managed a consistent pace during the initial miles, clocking a promising 9:31 per mile in the first mile. However, the pace gradually decreased with each subsequent mile. By mile 5, his split of 11:13 showed a notable increment in elapsed pace, concluding the race with an average of 11:26 per mile. Despite a challenging second half, Charles maintained his focus and determination.
