Third in the women's 6569 division, and a sub-two-hour morning on the harbour Under grey marine light, with the threatened rain and wind never showing up, Monica Dunn took third place in the women's 6569 division at the Long Beach Half Marathon a podium finish in a field of 16,531. The clock read 1:57:51, an average of 8:59 per mile held with remarkable steadiness from Shoreline Drive out through Belmont Shore and back to Marina Green. Mile 3 came through around 8:34, the quickest of the day, and mile 10 around 8:45 showed there was still plenty in reserve late. Through halfway the cumulative pace sat at 8:56, and it barely budged over the second half. Best of all, the final stretch to the line was covered at roughly 8:22 per mile the fastest running of the morning saved for the last few hundred metres. The salt air suited this one beautifully.
