Consistent Middle Kilometres Built a Solid 5K Mutahir completed the 5K in 35:45, averaging 7:09/km. He covered the opening kilometre in 6:54, then settled into a steady stretch of 7:08, 7:09, and 7:02/km from kilometres 2 to 4. That fourth kilometre was his quickest sustained section after the start, and it helped him move up from 3473rd at 1km to 3251st by 4km. In a field of 5,624, he finished 323rd in the M31-35 division. The key stat is the consistency through the middle 3km: just 7 seconds separated kilometres 2 to 4. The final kilometre dipped to 7:33/km, giving back some of the gains made earlier. As a coachs note, keeping that kilometre-4 rhythm a little longer would likely bring his overall average down next time. Run The Wharfs evening closed-road format suited a controlled, even effort for most of the race.
