Strong finish and excellent pace progression Sam ran 5.00 km in 14:58, averaging 2:59/km. He finished 11th overall out of 5,624, and notably took 1st in the male field and 1st in the male division. In a large field, that combination of outright speed and category result stands out, especially at an evening 5K built for fast running through Canary Wharf. His pacing was very controlled: 3:05, 3:02, 3:00, 3:01, then a fastest final kilometre of 2:51. He moved from 29th overall at 1 km to 11th by the finish, and from 2nd male early to 1st male by 3 km, holding that position to the line. That closing kilometre was a major strength. The one coaching note: if he can bring the opening kilometre slightly closer to the middle section without losing the finish, there may be a little more time available.
