Fast Opening Km Set Up a Solid 5K Shakil ran 5.0 km in 33:11, averaging 6:38/km. He placed 227th in the mens 3640 division and finished ahead of 2,579 of 5,624 runners overall. His quickest kilometre was the first in 5:53/km, giving him a strong opening before settling into a steadier rhythm. His km splits were 5:53, 6:48, 7:03, 6:43, and 6:45. After the fast start, pace eased through the middle section, then recovered well over the final 2 km with a 20-second improvement from km 3 to km 4. That late stabilising is a useful positive on a fast evening 5K through Canary Wharf. For the next race, aiming for a slightly more even effort after the opening kilometre could help him hold closer to his early pace deeper into the run.
