Strong negative split with a fast closing kilometre Darren completed this 5K in 24:54, averaging 4:58/km. He finished 70th in the M4145 division and placed inside the top 23% overall (1260 of 5624). His pacing improved through the race: 5:01, 5:11, 5:02, 4:58, then 4:43/km, giving him a 28-second negative split from the first half to the second. That finish stands out most: the final kilometre was his quickest by 18 seconds compared with his opening kilometre, and he gained places steadily from 1580th at 1K to 1260th at the line. In an evening 5K built for fast running through Canary Wharf, that late-race strength was a real asset. Next step as a coach: aim for a slightly smoother second kilometre to bring the overall average down further.
