Fast Opening, Steady Finish for a Sub-22 5K Eric ran 5.00 km in 21:59, averaging 4:23/km. He opened quickly with a 4:13 first kilometre, then settled into a consistent middle stretch of 4:26, 4:30 and 4:32 before closing in 4:21. That gave him a 19-second positive split from first to fourth kilometre, followed by a strong final rebound. In a field of 5,624, he finished 613th overall and 53rd in the M36-40 category. A notable stat: he moved up from 638th at 1 km to 601st by 3 km and held that position through 4 km before a small drop late on. For a fast evening 5K through Canary Wharf, this was a solid, controlled run. As a coaching note, slightly more restraint in the first kilometre could help him hold the middle kilometres closer to 4:25/km throughout.
