Strong Finish and Well-Controlled 5K Effort James ran 5.0 km in 28:10, averaging 5:38/km. He placed 2,044 of 5,624 overall, 1,246 among men, and 349 in the male 2630 division. His fastest kilometre was the last in 5:26, and his opening kilometre was close behind at 5:29. In a big evening 5K through Canary Wharf, finishing in the top 37% overall is a solid result. His pacing showed a small fade through the middle: 5:29, 5:38, 5:54, 5:44, then a strong close at 5:26. That final kilometre was 28 seconds quicker than km 3, which is a good sign of reserve late in the race. As a coachs note, the main opportunity is to hold km 24 a little closer to opening pace; with that, he could turn this strong finish into a faster overall time.
