Quick Opening, Then a Stronger Finish Over the Final 2km James covered 5.00km in 1:14:49, averaging 14:57/km. He placed 132nd of 4650 men, 1891st male, and 3915th of 5624 overall. His fastest kilometre was the opening 1km in 7:04, and he was still running among a large field at this Friday-night Canary Wharf 5K. After the fast start, his pace settled to 13:09/km for kilometre 2 and 27:42/km for kilometre 3, before he regrouped well with back-to-back closing kilometres of 13:27 and 13:29. That late stabilisation is the key stat here: his final 2km were consistent and much stronger than the middle section. As a coachs note, a more even effort after the opening kilometre would likely help him turn that strong closing control into a better overall 5K time.
