His position improved steadily through the race, moving from 2,482nd at 1km to 1,484th at the finish. The standout stat was his progression by kilometre: 5:58, 5:29, 5:10, 4:45, and 4:34. That is a clear negative split, with the final 2km averaging 4:40/km versus 5:44/km for the opening 2km. On a fast evening 5K through Canary Wharf, he finished with his quickest running. As a coachs note, starting a little closer to his later pace could unlock a faster overall time while keeping this excellent finish.
