Fast Opening Km, Solid Finish for a Sub-27 5K He completed the 5K in 26:47, averaging 5:21/km. In a field of 5,624, that placed him 1,705th overall and 296th in the Male 2630 division. His quickest kilometre was the opening 1K in 5:00, and he stayed close to pace with a 5:15 second kilometre. Through 2K he was averaging 5:07/km. From 3K to 4K, pace drifted from 5:27 to 5:45/km, before he recovered well with a 5:23 final kilometre. That late response is a useful positive, especially in a fast evening 5K built for rhythm through Canary Wharf. As a coaching note, the main opportunity is to smooth the pace after the strong start; holding the early 5:075:13/km range deeper into the race would bring down the overall time.
