Fast Opening Km Set Up a Strong Sub-22:10 5K David ran 5.00 km in 22:09, averaging 4:25/km. He placed 31st in the Male 4145 division and finished 651st out of 5,624 overall. His fastest kilometre was the first in 4:17, and he was well placed through 2 km at 8:40, moving up to 603rd overall and 29th in his division. From there, the pace settled to 4:34 for km 3, then a steady 4:28 for both km 4 and km 5. That closing stability is a useful strength, especially in a fast evening 5K like Run The Wharf through Canary Wharf. As a coaching note, slightly smoothing the gap between the opening 2 km and km 3 could help him carry that early momentum deeper into the race.
