Steady 5K With a Strong Opening Kilometre Alex ran 5.00 km in 27:50, averaging 5:34/km. His fastest kilometre was the opener in 5:18, and he stayed controlled after that with splits of 5:38, 5:45, 5:37, and 5:34. That gave him a solidly even run after the quick start, with just 27 seconds between fastest and slowest full kilometres. He finished 1,966th of 5,624, placing inside the top 35% overall. In the Friday-night Canary Wharf 5K, that consistency stands out well. As a coaching note, pacing the first kilometre a little closer to overall average could help him hold the middle section more evenly and possibly finish a few seconds quicker next time.
