He opened well with a quickest first kilometre of 4:19, then covered the next kilometres in 4:28, 4:41, 4:43, and 4:49. That gave him a 13:28 through 3 km and 18:10 through 4 km. He finished 809th of 5,624 overall, 518th male, and 158th in the male 2630 division. The standout stat was the sharp start: 4:19/km is well ahead of overall race pace. From a coaching view, that early speed showed good top-end pace, and a slightly more even distribution across the middle and final 2 km could help him hold closer to 4:354:40/km deeper into the race. Run The Wharfs closed-road evening format suited a quick opener, and he still delivered a solid sub-23-minute result.
