Fast opening 2K set up a solid 5K finish Zia covered 5.00 km in 27:17, averaging 5:27/km. She placed 1,830th of 5,624 overall, 522nd female, and 100th in the female 3135 division. Her first 2 km were the strongest section: 5:11 and 5:17, reaching 2 km in 10:27 at 5:13/km. From there, her pace eased to 5:36, 5:44, and 5:32 across the final 3 km. That gave her a 25-second positive split from the first half to the second half, but she still finished the last kilometre quicker than kilometre 4. That late response is a useful sign. For the next 5K, aiming to hold the opening pace a little more evenly through 34 km could help trim time on a course known for quick evening racing through Canary Wharf.
