His first 3 km were especially consistent: 4:43, 4:38, and 4:43, reaching 3 km in 14:04 at 4:41/km. The key stat is the contrast between the opening 3 km and the closing 2 km. Pace moved to 4:54/km for km 4 and 4:51/km for km 5, about 1016 seconds per km slower than his early rhythm. From a coaching view, that suggests a solid speed base with a chance to improve late-race pace retention. In an evening Canary Wharf 5K built for fast running, that opening section showed good control.
