Fast start, steady middle, strong closing kilometre Josh ran 5.00 km in 17:40, averaging 3:32/km. He placed 91st overall out of 5,624, 21st male, and 6th in the male 3135 division. His opening kilometre was the quickest at 3:21, and he finished with a strong final kilometre in 3:27. In a large field, that result put him comfortably inside the top 2% overall. His kilometre splits were 3:21, 3:33, 3:40, 3:41, and 3:27. The middle 3 km averaged 3:38/km before he regained pace late. That closing lift is a good sign. From a coaching view, a slightly more controlled first kilometre may help him hold closer to 3:303:32/km through the middle and convert that into a faster overall time at this quick evening 5K through Canary Wharf.
