Strong Negative Split and Fast Closing 5K Maria Victoria Spadaro Grant completed the 5K in 35:35, averaging 7:07/km. She placed 36th in the Female 55+ division, 1471st female, and 3384th overall out of 5624 finishers. A notable stat: she improved position steadily through the race, moving from 48th to 36th in her division by halfway and holding that gain to the finish. Her pacing trended strongly in the right direction: 7:57, 8:06, 6:53, 6:21, and 6:21 per km. That is an excellent negative split, with the final 2 km run at 6:21/km after the first 2 km averaged just over 8:00/km. In a fast evening 5K through Canary Wharf, that late-race strength stands out. As a coaching note, a slightly more assertive opening kilometre could unlock an even quicker overall time while keeping this strong finish.
