Fast Start, Top-5 Age-Group Finish Thomas ran 5.00 km in 18:30, averaging 3:42/km. In a field of 5,624, he placed 5th in the Male 3640 division, 57th among men, and 155th overall. That age-group result stands out, especially in a large evening 5K through Canary Wharf. He opened very sharply with 3:33 and 3:34 for the first 2 km, then closed with 3:46, 3:52, and 3:47. Through 2 km he was up to 3rd in his division before settling to 5th by the finish. The main coaching takeaway is pacing: the early speed was strong enough to put him near the front of his category, and a slightly more even effort over the middle kilometres could help him hold that position deeper into the race.
