Strong Finish Lifts Overall 5K Pace Matt ran 5.00 km in 23:30, averaging 4:42/km. He finished 926th of 5,624 overall, 599th among men, and 115th in the mens 3135 division. That placed him in roughly the top 16% overall. In a fast evening 5K through Canary Wharf, his closing kilometre stood out most. His kilometre splits were 4:34, 4:41, 4:51, 4:55, and 4:31. After a steady opening 2 km, pace faded slightly through km 34 before he rebounded with his quickest kilometre at the end, 24 seconds faster than average pace over km 34. That late surge gained 25 overall places from 4 km to the finish. As a coachs note: the finishing speed was excellent; holding a little more of that rhythm through the middle kilometres could bring the overall time down further.
