Strong negative split with a fast closing kilometre Simon ran 5.00 km in 29:33, averaging 5:54/km. In a field of 5,624, he finished 2,362nd overall and 233rd in the mens 1825 division. His pacing improved each kilometre: 6:19, 6:15, 5:58, 5:48, then 5:13 for the final kilometre. That is a clear negative split, with the last kilometre 1:06 quicker than the first and 0:35 quicker than kilometre 4. He also moved up steadily through the race, improving from 2,930th at 1 km to 2,362nd at the finish. As a coaching note, this finish shows strong reserve; a slightly more assertive opening 2 km could help convert that closing speed into a faster overall 5K on another evening through Canary Wharf.
