Strong negative split with a sub-5:00 final kilometre Hugo ran 5.00 km in 25:40, averaging 5:08/km. He placed 21st in the Male 55+ division, 921st among men, and 1435th overall out of 5624. That puts him well inside the top quarter of the field overall, and close to the top 20 in his age group. The clearest stat is his pacing progression: 5:22, 5:06, 5:09, 5:07, then 4:58 for the final kilometre. After the opening km, every kilometre was quicker, or close to it, with his average pace improving steadily from 5:22/km at 1 km to 5:08/km by the finish. Gaining nine places in his division by 2 km and holding 21st from there shows a well-judged effort. As a coachs note: starting a few seconds quicker while keeping that finishing strength could move him higher again.
