Strong finish lifted a steady 5K Gary ran 5.00 km in 24:46, averaging 4:57/km. He finished 69th of 4145 men and placed in the top 22% overall (1228 of 5624). His position improved through the race, moving from 1428th at 1 km to 1228th at the finish. At a Friday-evening Canary Wharf 5K built for fast running, that late gain stood out. His kilometre splits were 5:02, 4:57, 5:09, 5:03, and 4:38. The quickest section came in the final kilometre, 31 seconds faster than his average pace and 31 seconds quicker than his slowest kilometre. That closing speed is a good sign. To sharpen this further, aim to hold the 2 km rhythm deeper into the middle of the race so the strong finish can build on an even stronger base.
