Date: Sept. 3, 2026 Participant: James Smart #49 Race: 2026 Run The Wharf 5K

Fast Close Secures Top-15 Male Finish James ran 5.00 km in 17:08, averaging 3:25/km. He placed 73rd of 5,624 overall, 13th male, and 4th in the mens 3135 division. That is a strong return in a large field, especially at Run The Wharfs fast evening 5K through Canary Wharf. His pacing was controlled through 4 km: 3:23, 3:29, 3:31, and 3:32, then he finished with the quickest kilometre of the race at 3:15. He moved from 90th overall at 2 km to 73rd at the line, gaining 17 places over the second half. That late acceleration stands out. As a coachs note, if he can bring km 24 a little closer to the opening and closing pace, there may be more time available without changing the overall race approach.
