His fastest kilometre was the first in 5:55/km, giving him a strong start through the closed-road Canary Wharf course. After 1 km, pace eased to 7:06/km, then 7:44/km, 7:43/km, and 8:06/km over the final three kilometres. Thats a 2:11/km gap between the opening and closing kilometres, with positions holding steady through 4 km before a drop late on. As a coachs note: the opening speed was clearly there, so a more controlled first kilometre could help him hold closer to that mid-race rhythm deeper into the run.
