Fast opening kilometre set up a solid top-20% finish Jason ran 5.0km in 24:15, averaging 4:51/km. He finished 1110th of 5624, placing him in roughly the top 20% overall. In the male 3640 category, he was 98th, and 733rd among men. His quickest kilometre was the first in 4:28, and he reached 2km in 9:12 at 4:36/km average pace. From there, his kilometre splits were 5:11, 5:04, and 4:49, showing a mid-race slowdown before a stronger closing kilometre. That late response was a good sign. As a coachs note, a slightly more even effort after the opening kilometre could help him hold closer to his early pace across the full distance. Running with Friday Night Lights suited the event well, with this evening Canary Wharf 5K built for quick road running through the city.
