Fast, Consistent 5K with a Podium Age-Group Finish Matt ran 5.00 km in 17:07, averaging 3:25/km. He placed 12th of 5,624 men and 3rd in the M3135 division, a strong age-group result. In a big field, he stayed near the front throughout and improved from 13th to 12th among men by 2 km, holding that position to the finish. His pacing was very steady: 1 km splits of 3:23, 3:22, 3:27, 3:30, and 3:26. The opening 2 km was particularly sharp at 6:45 total, and the full race stayed within an 8-second split range, which shows good control. The slight fade through 34 km suggests the main opportunity is extending that early rhythm deeper into the race. In an event known for quick evening racing through Canary Wharf, this was a well-executed performance.
