Strong negative split and fast closing kilometre Kate covered 5.00 km in 28:58, averaging 5:47/km. She placed 2222nd of 5624 overall, putting her ahead of roughly 60% of the field. Her pacing was notably controlled: the first 3 km were very even at 5:55, 5:56 and 5:56 per km, then she accelerated to 5:45/km for km 4 and 5:28/km for km 5. That final kilometre was 27 seconds quicker than km 4 and 28 seconds quicker than her opening kilometre, a strong finish that lifted her through the field from 2526th at 1 km to 2210th by 4 km. In a fast evening 5K through Canary Wharf, that late-race progression stands out. As a coaching note, the key opportunity is to bring a little more of that km-5 pace into the middle of the race while keeping the same control early.
