Quick opening kilometre set up a solid 5K Mackenzie ran 5.00 km in 29:19, averaging 5:51/km. He opened strongly with a 5:13 first kilometre, then covered the remaining kilometres in 5:40, 6:02, 6:16, and 6:10. That gave him a 49-second spread between fastest and slowest kilometres. He finished 2300th of 5624 overall, placing in the top 41% of the field, and 376th in the Male 2630 division. The clearest trend was the fade after 2 km: 10:53 at 2 km became 16:54 at 3 km and 23:09 at 4 km. The final kilometre improved slightly from 6:16 to 6:10, which is a good sign. For the next 5K, aiming to hold the early pace a little more evenly through 34 km could help him bring the average closer to his opening speed on this fast Canary Wharf course.
