From there, the pace drifted: 3 km in 19:30 and 4 km in 28:20, with the middle section accounting for most of the time loss. The closing result still brought him back to 89th in his age group by the finish, a useful recovery in placing. Best coaching takeaway: the early speed was there, so the main opportunity is holding that effort more evenly through the middle kilometres in future 5Ks.
