His km splits improved throughout: 5:25, 5:13, 5:05, 5:02, then a quickest final kilometre of 4:57. That progression stands out. He cut 28 seconds from first kilometre to last and improved position steadily through 4 km before holding it to the finish. In a fast evening 5K built around Canary Wharfs closed roads and social atmosphere, that finishing speed suggests he paced the race well. As a coachs note, a slightly quicker opening kilometre could bring his average pace closer to the effort he showed late on.
