Controlled pacing with a strong closing kilometre Greg ran 5.00 km in 24:13, averaging 4:50/km. He finished 97th in the male 3640 division and was inside the top 20% overall, placing 1106th of 5624. His pacing was steady across the full distance: 4:52, 4:57, 4:49, 4:54, then 4:43 for the final kilometre. The standout stat was the finish: his quickest kilometre came last, 14 seconds faster than race pace. He also improved from 111th to 97th in his age group by the finish. As a coachs note, that closing speed suggests there may be scope to press a little earlier in the middle kilometres while keeping the same control. In a fast evening 5K through Canary Wharf, he finished with good composure.
