Strong Finish Backed by Steady 5K Pacing Matthew ran 5.00 km in 28:50, averaging 5:46/km. He placed 64th in the mens 5155 division and finished in the top 40% overall (2200 of 5624). His pacing was consistent through 4 km: 5:46, 5:44, 5:50, 5:57, then he closed fastest in 5:35 for the final kilometre. That finishing kilometre stands out most: after a small fade from 24 km, he regained pace well and moved back to his division position by the end. As a coachs note, the even early rhythm was solid; the clearest gain next time would be holding closer to that 5:45/km range through kilometres 3 and 4. Run The Wharfs evening closed-road format suited a controlled effort with a strong close.
